Courses Taught
Health Economics (Undergraduate & MSc) Seminars covering market failures in health, insurance theory, demand for health, provider incentives, and health policy evaluation. Emphasis on connecting economic theory to real-world health system design, with examples drawn from active research. Software: Stata.
Econometrics (Undergraduate & MSc) Applied regression analysis, instrumental variables, panel data methods, and programme evaluation. Students guided through empirical research design and hands-on data analysis using real economic datasets. Software: Stata, LaTeX.
Quantitative Methods (Undergraduate) Introductory and intermediate quantitative reasoning for economics students. Covers hypothesis testing, regression basics, and interpretation of empirical results with a consistent focus on policy applications.
Statistics I & II (Undergraduate) Probability distributions, sampling theory, estimation, and statistical inference, taught with concrete real-world examples to make abstract concepts accessible and applicable.
Probability I & II (Undergraduate) Foundational probability theory covering events, random variables, expectation, and limit theorems, designed to build rigorous mathematical foundations for students with varied technical backgrounds.
Principles of Economics (Undergraduate) Microeconomic and macroeconomic theories using the CORE Economics curriculum, applying economic principles to a wide range of real-world issues and policy challenges.
Teaching Philosophy
My teaching centres on bridging rigorous theory with real-world application. Whether introducing hypothesis testing for the first time or working through instrumental variables design with MSc students, I anchor every concept in a concrete empirical question, often drawn from my own research on health, labour markets, and inequality. Students consistently note that this approach makes complex methods feel purposeful rather than mechanical, and builds genuine critical thinking rather than rote technique.
Teaching Activities
Weekly seminars and tutorials at UG and MSc level across six consecutive years
Applied software training in Stata and LaTeX
Design and marking of coursework, problem sets, and examinations
Supervision of students through empirical research projects and dissertations
Regular office hours for quantitative methods support
Student Feedback
"Makes economic theory genuinely accessible by grounding every concept in real-world examples, one of the clearest and most engaging teachers I have had." BSc Health Economics student, University of York
"Encourages you to think critically rather than just follow a formula. The seminars genuinely changed how I approach empirical questions." Undergraduate Econometrics student, University of York
"Explained instrumental variables in a way that finally made intuitive sense, patient, thorough, and always willing to go the extra mile." — MSc Econometrics student, University of York
Availability Available for teaching appointments from 2026. Open to roles in health economics, econometrics, applied microeconomics, and quantitative methods at undergraduate and postgraduate level. A reference letter from the GTA programme convenor at the University of York is available on request.
